Ombré Powder vs. Microblading – how to decide which treatment is best for you
Microblading has seen mainstream appeal due to its promise of realistic “hair strokes.” Though they indeed look real when first applied, with time and healing the strokes fade, spread and often look blotchy, losing their realistic effect. The Powder Brow technique delivers consistent colour and shape, and when healed, provides a soft makeup look that doesn’t wash off.
Powder Brows uses a machine powered “nano-needle” which disperses extremely fine dots of pigment into the skin with an airbrush-like look. Repeated passes allow the artist to create custom shading and depth to the brows, as well as achieve a precise yet soft-edged shape. Though the initial results can be intense, when healed they are soft.
Microblading uses a hand tool comprised of a row of sharp needles that are used as a blade to create narrow lacerations in the skin. With Microblading, it can be difficult to control the overall shape of the brow as well as depth of lacerations. With necessary touch ups, repeated cuts into the same spots will cause scarring in the skin.
Powder Brows are less painful due to the technique of application and the fineness of the needles. The pin-point machine work causes less trauma to the skin vs. the cutting technique of Microblading which can be deeper and cause bleeding.
With Powder Brows, minimal to zero blood surfaces during the procedure. Experience has shown that machine work with nano needles can actually improve the skin, encouraging natural collagen production and increased blood flow, often resulting with a boost in hair growth!
Results vary based on lifestyle, skin type, health, preferences, etc. but a single Powder Brow procedure, using high-quality organic pigments, can last on average 2-3 years.
Microblading on the other hand, has a high likelihood of requiring more frequent touch-ups which generates more trauma to the skin. Choosing the right method to preserve the long-term integrity of your skin, especially around such a sensitive area, is critical.
Unlike microblading, which is not suitable for oily skin, aged/mature skin
Powder Brows are great for any skin type.
Microblading on oily skin results in blurry, inconsistent colour and rapid fading of pigment.
While Powder Brows have a more consistent “filled in” look, the healed results appear like softly shaded brow pencil or powder. Immediately after the procedure, Powder Brows will appear saturated and bold. However, with healing the colour fades 20%-40% leaving a soft finish and effortless shape.
A 4 hour, nearly painless procedure will give your brows 2-3 years of life. We love this powdered look vs. Microblading because it really looks like you’ve filled in your brows naturally with makeup. Waking up with effortless brows every day can now be a reality!
Treatment: How long does it take and what is the process?
The session takes approximately two hours – inclusive of initial consult, design, treatment, and aftercare advice.
Our first and most important topic is your objective regarding shape and colour, followed by our professional recommendation of what will work best for your facial structure. This tailored approach alleviates any concern of your brows becoming too thick or too dark.
I have had my eyebrows done elsewhere but am unhappy with the results – can you help to fix them?
Eyebrow Correction is for new clients who have had a brow treatment elsewhere. Powder Brows is the only technique we use fix the patchiness and correct colour. Microblading is not suitable to fix these issues and has limited suitability for certain skin types.
Eyebrow Correction can be tricky as the new colour must be darker than your existing colour and within the shape constraints.
Secondly, it’s difficult to completely match old and new colours match new colour and old colour, especially with clients that have had Microblading and scar tissue as a result.
It is best to arrange an in-person consultation so we can discuss what you would like to achieve, and ensure you leave feeling like the most confident version of yourself.
I had my eyebrows done somewhere else. Can I come to you for a touch up?
Yes, but this is classified as ‘Eyebrow Correction’ (refer above), touch up prices are only applied for existing clients.
Post treatment: How long will my brows last?
Up to 3 years for Ombré Powder Brows. Results will vary depending on your exposure to sun, your skins resistance to pigment and how darkness of the colour you choose. Touch ups within this period will extend the results of your treatment.
Post treatment: How long would my brows take to heal?
Approximately 5 days depending on your bodies tendency to heal.
Post treatment: What to avoid during my healing period?
For both Powder Brows and Lip Blush treatments, excessive swimming in the ocean or chlorinated pool is not recommended however activities like jogging, netball and exercise are completely fine. Make sure to let the skin breathe and avoid touching the area. Always keep them clean and dry.
Pre-treatment: How long can I get my brows done after filler injections?
It is recommended to wait at least 6 weeks before we can provide a service to ensure your skin is settled and ready.
Eyebrow procedure: Does it hurt?
Most of our clients say the procedure is virtually pain-free. We also use numbing cream to keep you comfortable. Powder Brows doesn’t penetrate the skin as deeply as some other treatments, so it can feel more like fine scratches.
Pre-treatment: Can I tint my own eyebrows prior?
We may be professionals but tinting your eyebrows will make it difficult for us to examine the right colour and offer the quality we like to uphold, so please avoid tinting yourself before undertaking the procedure.
Pre-treatment: Do I have to wax prior?
It is totally up to you. If you decide to, please make sure it is done at least 3 days before our session so your skin is ready.
Post treatment: What happens after?
Let your eyebrows or lips heal and enjoy your beauty and new-found spare time when getting ready! After your initial session, it is recommended to book your first touch-up session to achieve the best results and longevity of treatment. After one year, the shape will still remain but depending on your skin and how you feel about the colour, you can come back for additional touch ups.
What is Lip Blush?
A semi-permanent form of makeup gives lips more definition, fuller and enhanced shape, colour boost or change the tone of lips. It is also referred as Candy Lips, Kissable Lips, Aquarelle Lips, or Watercolour Lips. As an experienced professional, we use a digital machine to deposit tiny dots of colour all over your lips to give a natural and beautiful tint with no visible outline. After the procedure, colour appears bright and will soften by about 30-50% for natural look. The look is more like a tinted lip balm rather than a solid lipstick. Lip blush can last between 2-4 years with recommended touchups every 18-24 months. We offer a variety of colours to choose and mix from.
I did my lips somewhere else. Can I go to you for a touch up?
Some people who switch to us are not satisfied with their past beautician. As much as we want to accommodate touch ups, if the lips do not meet our expectations, we would most likely refuse you this service and advise to re-do them instead. We would rather be upfront with you than offer you a service that would not bring out the best in your lips. Feel free to ask us to see how we can help.
How will Lip Blush benefit me?
Aesthetics and life-style. Your lips will appear more defined, vibrant and youthful. Your lips can be restored or corrected. Your lip scars, hypo pigmentation or spots, if any, can be covered. Your lip blue colour will be kiss-proof, smudge-proof, sweat-proof and water-proof. Your lips may appear fuller and larger. You may eliminate daily use of lipsticks or pencils to outline, fill and reshape borders. Having a lip blush will give you the look you are after that will save you time and money.
Can you draw outside my lips?
Please note that we will discourage and will not apply pigments outside of your kip tissue/over-line of your lips due to our skin will take pigment differently and it will look bad and unnatural. While we can correct very subtle asymmetries, lip blush is not the solution for dramatic and over-the-top shape adjustments. We prefer staying natural and classy.
Is Lip Blush a replacement for lipstick?
That depends. It is technically not a replacement for lipstick as it cannot be applied in the same way. The look is more like a tinted lip balm rather than a solid lipstick. Only experienced professionals can apply this to achieve a good and natural result. You may forget about applying a lipstick everyday as your lips have a semi-permanent pigment of your choice. If you have a habit of overlining your lips when using lipstick, lip blush will not replace this because overlining with pigment will create a fuzzy and blurry look like a smeared lipstick. Other cheaper and inexperienced artists may do this, but we will strongly discourage and not do this as the result won’t look beautiful - only exception would be for medical reasons such as scar coverups.
What happens during an appointment?
First, we will discuss your goals, asses the status of your lips and choose your pigment colour. If you have a favourite lipstick, you can bring it and we can mix a colour to match. Second, once you approve the style and colour, we will numb your lips for 25 minutes. Third, we will begin the procedure which takes about 2 hours. The appointment is long so wear comfy clothes, bring headphones and always feel free to let us know if you want to take a stretch break. Lip blush is a Two-Step process which is why a First Touchup is needed - this second session is where we will address any areas that may have healed lighter or retained lesser pigment so we could make any colour adjustments desired.
Can I still get a filler?
Yes! Lip blush and filler pair wonderfully together and many girls have both! Just make sure to get your lip blush 4 weeks before or after your filler appointment.
Can I still wear a lipstick?
Absolutely! Lip blush is generally sheer and natural looking, similar to tainted lip balm. If you want a bolder look for the day, you can wear a lipstick above your lip blush layer. Just keep in mind that lipsticks, especially matte ones, tend to be drying overall and should be avoided during the first few weeks of healing.
Is a follow-up appointment needed?
Yes. In order to ensure that your lip blush heals perfectly, First Touchup after the initial session is needed 6-8 apart. This gives your lips the opportunity to be corrected for any areas that may not have taken pigment as well and allows you to make suggestions if you want slight adjustment with shape or colour.
Does it hurt?
Before the procedure begins, a topical anaesthetic is applied to the area to minimise discomfort, followed by a liquid anaesthetic during the procedure. Some may feel slight discomfort, but it’s relatively low pain for most. Most girls rate the pain 2-3 out of 10. Please note if you are a frequent smoker, or have your appointment during your menstrual cycle, the pain level could be intensified.
Do results vary?
Yes, colour retention and overall results are different for each individual. Factors such as sun exposure, skin type & tone, lifestyle & body will determine how your semi-permanent makeup will heal. Please follow the Aftercare guide we will provide you.
How long does Lip Blush last?
Lip blush lasts 2-4 years or longer with touchups recommended every 18-24 months. Individual results will vary depending on age, lifestyle, skin type, sun exposure, beauty routine, products used and more.
Can I pick a Lip Blush pigment far from my dark lips?
We call this Lips Neutralisation. Some ladies with natural darker lips or skin tone prefer jumping to vibrant lip blush colour far from their natural lip shade. To achieve desired result, 2 or more sessions are required. Please send a clear and well-lit photo of your lips for review before booking.
What is Eyeliner Tatooing?
A permanent treatment by applying ink along the lash line. Depending on your skin and lifestyle, they have to be touched up every 3 to 5 years. You can choose from extremely thin and natural-looking lines, thick lines, and even winged lines which replace the need for an eyeliner each day.
